LONDON (AFP) – Waitrose has pulled a series of TV advertisements from US channel Fox News after one of its talk show hosts called US President Barack Obama a “racist,” the Guardian reported on Monday. The supermarket chain acted after receiving at least one customer complaint about advertising on Fox News because of remarks by the channel’s conservative talk show host Glenn Beck, the paper said.
“We take the placement of our ads in individual programmes very seriously, ensuring the content of these programmes is deemed appropriate for a brand with our values,” a Waitrose customer services spokesman said.
“We have withdrawn all Waitrose advertising from the Fox News channel with immediate effect and for all future TV advertising campaigns.”
Fox News, which is owned by News Corp., is carried by Sky in Britain.
The move comes on the back of a US campaign to persuade American companies to pull their ads from Beck’s programme after he said in July that Obama had a “deep-seated hatred for white people.”
“This guy is, I believe, a racist,” Beck said after Obama criticised police in Massachusetts for acting “stupidly” in arresting a renowned black professor as he entered his own home.
US websites supporting Beck have launched a counter protest, calling for people to BOYCOTT companies which pulled advertising from his show, and any company that violates our Constitutional rights.( this is trying to control our Amendment rights of the CONSTITUTION if we don’t stand up to people like this, this is also a form of racism.)
